CHINA ROOM by Sunjeev Sahota was longlisted for the 2022 Walter Scott Prize for Historical Fiction. The award “celebrates quality, innovation, and ambition of writing, and is open to books first published in the previous year in the UK, Ireland, or the Commonwealth.” The shortlist for the award will be announced in April, and the winner will be announced in June via the Borders Book Festival in Melrose, Scotland. HEAVY author Kiese Laymon is a 2022 United States Artists Fellow. USA Fellowships are awarded annually to “the most compelling artists working and living in the United States, in all disciplines, at every stage of their career.” Scribner published HEAVY on October 16, 2018.

BORN READY by Jodie Patterson is a Notable Book for a Global Society 2022 winner. Titles were selected for “reflect[ing] diversity in the broadest sense, celebrating a variety of voices and topics.” Crown Books for Young Readers published the book on April 20, 2021.

CROSSING THE LINE by Kareem Rosser is a winner of the ALA's 2022 Alex Award, “given to books written for adults that have special appeal to young adults, ages 12 through 18.” St. Martin’s Press published the hardcover edition on February 9, 2021, and will publish the paperback edition on February 1, 2022.

Kiese Laymon's reissued debut novel, LONG DIVISION, has been nominated for the 53rd NAACP Image Awards for Outstanding Literary Work in Fiction. The winners will be announced live on BET on February 26. Scribner published the reissue on June 1, 2021.

Joss Lake's FUTURE FEELING is a nominee for the 2022 PEN/Hemingway Award for Debut Novel. The prize is awarded annually to "a debut novel of exceptional literary merit by an American author." Finalists will be announced later this month. Soft Skull published the novel on June 1, 2021.

THE MARGOT AFFAIR author Sanaë Lemoine was selected as a recipient of the National Endowment for the Arts 2022 Creative Writing Fellowship for Prose. Grants are awarded to “published creative writers that enable the recipients to set aside time for writing, research, travel, and general career advancement,” and recipients are selected anonymously by the advisory panelists based on the “artistic excellence and artistic merit” of the sample work submitted for the fellowship.
