THE ABSENCE OF MERCY by John Burley

THE ABSENCE OF MERCY by John Burley has been selected as the Book of the Month Club’s National Black Ribbon winner, calling the title “a harrowing tale of suspense involving a brutal murder and dark secrets that lie beneath the surface of a placid, tight-knit Midwestern town.” William Morrow published the book on November 19, 2013.

NO ONE IS HERE EXCEPT ALL OF US by Ramona Ausubel

Ramona Ausubel’s NO ONE IS HERE EXCEPT ALL OF US has been nominated for the International Impac Dublin Award, which said, “Ausubel’s varying writing style of elegance and lyricism...making for a stunning debut with a moving narrative that underscores the importance of stories and the people who survive to tell them.” Riverhead published the book on March 15, 2012.

Olivia Laing

Olivia Laing was awarded the 2014 Eccles British Library Writer in Residence Award. Now in its third year, the Award promotes awareness of the British Library collections relating to the USA and allows the recipient to use the collections to research their upcoming publications. Picador will publish Laing’s book THE TRIP TO ECHO SPRING on December 24, 2013.

Joan Didion

The PEN Center USA awards have recognized Joan Didion with their lifetime achievement award. She will be presented the award by Harrison Ford in a ceremony in October.

NO ONE IS HERE EXCEPT ALL OF US by Ramona Ausubel

Ramona Ausubel’s NO ONE HERE EXCEPT ALL OF US won the 2013 PEN Center USA Literary Award for Fiction. Ausubel’s second book and first short story collection, A GUIDE TO BEING BORN, was published by Riverhead on May 2, 2013.

ELDERS by Ryan McIlvain

Ryan McIlvain’s ELDERS has been long listed for the 2013 Flaherty-Dunnan First Novel Prize. The prize is awarded to the best debut novel of the year by the Center For Fiction in conjunction with the American Booksellers Association (ABA), the not-for-profit trade association for independent booksellers. Hogarth published the book this March 5, 2013.

NORWEGIAN BY NIGHT by Derek B. Miller

Derek B. Miller’s NORWEGIAN BY NIGHT has been longlisted for the Crime Writers’ Association 2013 John Creasey Dagger award, which honors the best crime novel by a previously unpublished novelist. In their official statement, the judges said, “Tension, humour, and tragedy are combined in this beautifully-written contribution to Nordic noir with a twist from an English-speaking author.” Houghton Mifflin Harcourt released the book on May 21, 2013.

WISE MEN by Stuart Nadler

Stuart Nadler’s WISE MEN has been long listed for the 2013 Flaherty-Dunnan First Novel Prize. NO ONE IS HERE EXCEPT ALL OF US by Ramona Ausubel

Ramona Ausubel is the winner of the 2013 VCU Cabell First Novelist Award for her novel NO ONE IS HERE EXCEPT ALL OF US. Since 2002, the VCU Cabell First Novelist Award has honored an outstanding first novel published in the preceding calendar year. This year’s judges were authors Justin Torres and Samantha Dunn and radio host Liz Humes. Riverhead published the book on February 2, 2012.

THE MARRIAGE PLOT by Jeffrey Eugenides

Jeffrey Eugenides’ THE MARRIAGE PLOT has won the prestigious “Prix de Fitzgerald” in France, an annual prize awarded by the Society Club of the Hôtel Belle Rives to writing pieces that reflect, “the elegance, the wit, taste and style” of F. Scott Fitzgerald. Farrar, Straus, and Giroux published the book October 11, 2011.
