Lisa Locascio’s debut novel OPEN ME is one of the Village Voice’s 5 Great Debut Novels to Help You Get Through this Summer. Grove Atlantic will publish OPEN ME on August 7, 2018.

FLY ME by Daniel Riley

FLY ME is a semifinalist for the VCU Cabell First Novelist Award, which honors an outstanding debut novel from the preceding calendar year. The New York Times said of the novel, “Riley has a stylish grasp of setting as the axis of place and time, writing about the era with captivating authority, palpable texture and a sure-footed knack for rebuilding a moment out of its pop detritus.” Little, Brown published the book June 6, 2017.

BEARSKIN by James McLaughlin

BEARSKIN has been chosen as a July Indie Next Pick. One of the nominating booksellers said of the novel, “This powerful debut is a novel of terrible beauty. Using evocative prose, the author perfectly describes the lush landscape of the Virginia Appalachians while juxtaposing them against a world of primal violence.” Shelf Awareness has given BEARSKIN a starred review, calling it “an extraordinary first novel of powerful prose, Bearskin captures the blurry line between studying primordial nature and being a part of it.”

BEARSKIN by James McLaughlin

The New York Times has listed James McLaughlin as one of four Writers to Watch this Summer, saying of his debut novel, “the book combines intensely observed nature writing with white-knuckle suspense. It is… a literary novel and a thriller. Picture Thoreau having left for Walden with a bunch of bad dudes hot on his heels.” The book also received a starred review in Kirkus where it was called “An intense, visceral debut equal to the best that country noir has to offer.” Ecco will publish the book June 12, 2018.

TOUCHING THE DRAGON by James Hatch and Christian D’Andrea

James Hatch, a Navy Seal who was injured in a failed mission to rescue Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, was interviewed by AP News and Stars & Stripes regarding his new memoir, written with Christian D’Andrea, called TOUCHING THE DRAGON: And Other Techniques for Surviving Life’s Wars. Alfred A. Knopf published the book on May 15th, 2018.

THE TERRIBLE by Yrsa Daley-Ward

Yrsa Daley-Ward’s forthcoming memoir THE TERRIBLE was featured in The Paris Review’s Staff Picks. Penguin Books will publish THE TERRIBLE on June 5, 2018.

CHOSEN COUNTRY by James Pogue

James Pogue’s debut book about the standoff with the Bundy Family in the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in Oregon received a positive review from NPR Books. The reviewer, Michael Schaub says “Pogue does an exceptional job of explaining how one of the most bizarre and divisive events in recent U.S. history came to pass. Henry Holt & Co. published the book on May 22, 2018.

Tom Wolfe

The acclaimed journalist & novelist of such books as THE RIGHT STUFF and THE BONFIRE OF THE VANITIES passed away on Monday at the age of 88. His latest book, THE KINGDOM OF SPEECH, was published by Little Brown & Company on August 30, 2016.

SOCIAL CREATURE by Tara Isabella Burton

The debut thriller from Tara Isabella Burton was named one of the 17 Refreshing Books to Read This Summer by The New York Times. Janet Maslin says “Social Creature” is a wicked original with echoes of the greats (Patricia Highsmith, Gillian Flynn).” Doubleday will publish the book on June 5, 2018.

ASTRAL WEEKS by Ryan Walsh

Ryan Walsh’s history of Van Morrison’s legendary album “Astral Weeks” and the history of Boston in 1968 was named one of the 17 Refreshing Books to Read This Summer by The New York Times. Janet Maslin calls it “wonderfully oddball.” Penguin Press published the book on March 6, 2018.
