NPR Books praises Sicha “for his “biting wit and cynicism” and said the book is “equal parts blindingly terrifying and smartly humorous, and one of the most clever reads I've encountered in a long time.” Time Magazine, which called it an “accurate portrait of New York as it stood in 2009” and said that it has a “time-capsule charm.” The book was also featured in GQ Magazine’s on its Punch List, which said “We’d award…Very Recent History our prize for most hilarious satire of the summer…if only every word weren’t true.” The author was also interviewed by Interview Magazine which raved about VERY RECENT HISTORY that “The dialogue is so sharp [and] Sicha’s position as a journalist is so impressively embedded it could be described as vascular and also called it a “Vonnegut-esque manual of the era.” HarperCollins published the book on Aug 6, 2013.
