In a complementary review for Bookforum, Victoria Baena wrote that Derek Palacio’s “novel doesn’t seem to want to sublimate the ugly, the putrid, or the decayed; it’s aware that describing abject bodily realities, in fiction, can in a sense turn them into objects of beauty...”

THE SHADOW OF WHAT WAS LOST, the first novel in James Islington’s The Licanius Trilogy, was reviewed by the Guardian in their “Best Recent Science Fiction & Fantasy Roundup.” The review says Islington has “a story-telling assurance rare for a debut novelist” and says “fans of Robert Jordan & Brandon Sanderson will find much to admire.” Orbit will publish the book in the US on November 8, 2016.

THE BEAR AND THE NIGHTINGALE received a starred review from Kirkus, which said of the debut, “Arden has shaped a world that neatly straddles the seen and the unseen, where readers will hear echoes of stories from childhood while recognizing the imagination that has transformed old material into something fresh.” Booklist also gave the book a starred review, saying, “this beautifully written, auspicious first novel is utterly bewitching.” Del Rey will publish the book on January 10, 2017...

Library Journal ran a starred Express review of THE MORTIFICATIONS, where they wrote: “The intimate nature of the text combined with Palacio’s style, earthy and yet delicately lyrical, makes reading this absolutely gorgeous debut novel an almost overwhelming experience. This saga of a torn family will inhabit readers, who will find it impossible to forget...

Kirkus reviewed LITTLE HEAVEN, saying, “the story is gripping and the language often poetic, and the three killers make oddly sympathetic heroes.” Gallery will publish the book on January 10, 2017...

In the October 15th issue of Kirkus, its reviewers write that 300 ARGUMENTS is "A slim, poetic self-portrait that opens up as you read it and stays in the mind." Graywolf will publish the book February 7, 2016...
